When test driving a potential vehicle, try to keep your emotions in check. If a salesman sees that you are getting attached to the vehicle, they can gain the upper hand. Stay calm, ask any questions you have and pay attention to how the vehicle runs.

Next, get an online price quote. Today, most dealerships will have an online sales department that can get you a quote within a couple days time. You won’t be under any kind of obligation to pay the quoted price and it can be used as a potential bargaining chip with other dealerships.

Are you planning on trading in a vehicle? Trade in, new car and financing are three separate negotiations. Get the best possible price on the transaction. Try to avoid talking about financing and trade ins until you have negotiated on the price of the new vehicle.
